Kobe this week

I'm off to Kobe for three days this week, from Monday the 30th until Wed., June 1st.

All the JETs, like me, who are recontracting and staying in Japan a 2nd year are gathering in Kobe for a 3-day conference. Actually, they split us into two groups depending on where you live - all the JETs from southern Honshu, Kyuushu and Shikoku go to Kobe, while all the JETs lving in northern Honshu and Hokkaido go to Tokyo.

I haven't been to Kobe yet, so it should be a fun two nights of parties and reconecting with old friends I haven't seen in a while. I'm sure I'll have photos, so check back at the end of the week for updates and new pics.

::wave of jealousy:: I just read about Kobe in my Japanese lit class. Good/unrelated news: I've decided I'm sticking with the Japanese major after all. Hope you have fun on your journeys, Jason, can't wait to see you again in non-picture form =)

Hi Jason. Stumbled across your site whilst searching for stuff to do up in your neck of the woods. Good blog you've got going! Hope you don't mind me being pesky and quizzing your insider's knowledge of Shimane for a moment- I'll be spending a weekend up there soon... can you recommend any campsites/beaches/things to do in the Taisha/Izumo/Tamatsukuri area? Stuff besides the obvious tourist haunts (the shrine etc). Yoroshiku!

Alison - feel free to email me at Jasoninjapan(at)msn(dot)com

There is a wonderful beach in Taki. Best beach in the area. In addition to IzumoTaisha, you can drive or bus up the coast to the Hinomisaki todai (lighthouse) which is very scenic. Campsites - hmmm.... There is a nice area near Mt Sanbe - but that's about 1 hour south of my area. Also, the gorge in Sada is very cool and there's a nice onsen nearby. Also just down south is the abandoned Silver Mine at Iwami - nice 1/2 day trip.
